We have a new version of the Demonstrator!
    New in this version:
    • Some changes in the interface based on feedback from the users
    • River flow and Water temperature on Hype catchment resolution
    • A bug fix that caused an error when downloading big areas

During May we will be working on the following:
    • Time series for daily temperature, precipitation and river flow on 0.5 grid
    • The period 2080´s
    • Improvements in the naming and units of the indicators
    • Improvements in the metadata description
    • When downloading data, the metadata description will be included (at least a link to the metadata)
    • More changes in the interface (eg. select a certain RCP)

    • This topic was modified 8 years, 4 months ago by Lorna Little.

In a couple of weeks we will implement some changes in the indicator names (the names that will be shown in the scroll bar – in the excel spread sheet it is the column “short name”). We will also change to more relevant units and the number of decimals so it corresponds to the accuracy of the data.

We have a new version of the SWICCA Demonstrator! News in this version is that you can download time series for daily temperature, precipitation and river flow on 0.5 grid resolution.
For these variables there are a very big amount of data. To still get a sufficient performance we have chosen not to present a graph for the time series.
To find the time series you go to “ Graphs and download” and you will find “Precipitation (daily), Temperature (daily) and River flow (daily). As you have selected one of these time series you just press the download button. It is only possible to get the time series for one point at a time.

In the downloaded file for precipitation the name of the tab is a bit misleading, it says “VIC421” although the daily precipitation and temperature are output from the climate models (though bias-corrected) and not an interpretation of the climate model output by hydrological models. We will make this clearer in coming versions of the SWICCA Demonstrator. This will also soon be explained in the metadata description.

We have a new version of the SWICCA Demonstrator! News in this version:

•You can download the last future period (2071-2100). The reason why the last future period took so long is because for some indicators there are some missing data files in the end of the 21st century. we needed to decide how to handle the missing files and implement these exceptions in the interface. Before we did this, we prioritized to upload all the indicators and time series from the IMPACT2C archive.
•For Visualisation you can now select a certain RCP and resolution. Right now the indicators River flow and Water Temperature are the only indicators that can be visualised and downloaded for more than one resolution (0.5 degree and EHYPE catchments).

In next version of the SWICCA Demonstrator you will find three new indicators in 0.1 degree resolution for downloading: Cloud cover, relative humidity and temperature.
I´ll let you know when it is up and running!

We have a new version of the SWICCA Demonstrator!
News in this version are three new indicators for downloading: Cloud cover, Realtive humidity and Air temperature. All three indicators in 0.1 degree resolution. To start with these indicators are delivered only for one single member, more details about this will be find in the metadata description.

Right now we are working on uploading socio economic indicators (population and land use). I will let you know when these indicators are up on the SWICCA Demonstrator!

We have a new version of the SWICCA Demonstrator! News in this version:

•Under “graphs and download” you can now look at and download data for land use and population. One obvious thing that is still missing, is a legend in the graph for land use to make it clear which line belongs to each land use. Please be patient, we will fix that in a later version of the SWICCA Demonstrator. These indicators do not have a metadata description yet. I will upload the metadata descriptions as soon as I get them from the writer.

•We have made some changes in the naming of the indicators. The most obvious changes are the naming of the water budget indicators. We now call them Aridity 1, Aridity 2 and Aridity 3. The difference between these three indicators is explained in the metadata description.

    • When downloading data from Hype catchments we have made a conversion from subID to a unique coordinate within the catchment. This will make it much easier to identify what catchment you have downloaded (it surprises me that no one has complained? I hope you are using the data?).

We are right now working on updating the metadata descriptions for indicators in 0.5 grid resolution. Until this is done (I will upload them as soon as I get them, it will take about a week until all of them are updated) there might be a slight difference in the naming of the indicators in the Demonstrator and the naming in the downloaded pdf. I also know that many of you want the metadata description to be included when downloading the data. This will be done, but it will be later in June (we want all the metadata descriptions to be updated first).

In the next version of the SWICCA Demonstrator, you will find the seasonality of the flow duration curve.
I´ll let you know when it is up and running!

We have a new version of the SWICCA Demonstrator!
News in this version is seasonality of the flow duration curve. You will find it under “Graphs and Download”. Note that this indicator has an extra option where you select month to look at and download.

I the next version of the Demonstrator there will be:
•An option for selection of resolution under “Graphs and Download”. Hopefully it will then be more clear what indicators we have for different resolutions.

•On request from a user the downloaded excel file from EHYPE catchments will contain both coordinates and subID.

I´ll let you know when the next version is up and running!

We have a new version of the SWICCA Demonstrator! News in this version:
•An option for selection of resolution under “Graphs and Download”. Hopefully it will now be more clear what indicators we have for different resolutions.
•The downloaded excel file from EHYPE catchments will contain both coordinates and subID.
•Smaller improvements in the graphs and downloaded files for landuse and dry spell
•The metadata descriptions for all indicators in the 0.5 grid have been updated

The data provides are working on data on a higher resolution. According to the plan all indicators that we now have on the 0,5 grid resolution will be delivered on Hype catchment resolution by the end of June. This delivery will also include the water quality indicators.

The data providers are also working on Lisflood data on 5 km resolution for the following indicators: River flow, flow duration curve and flood recurrence. This work is taking a bit longer than expected, so I´m not sure if this will be delivered in June.

I´ll let you know when the next version of the SWICCA Demonstrator with the high resolution indicators is up and running!

We have a new version of the SWICCA Demonstrator!
    News in this version:
•Water quality indicators in HYPE catchment resolution
•An update of the indicators Water temperature and River flow in HYPE catchment resolution. These indicators are calculated with the same HYPE version as the water quality indicators (EHYPE3.12) and there are some differences in the result between these and the ones that were derived from EHYPE3.11. The data providers that best can explain the differences are out of office today, but I will ask them to explain the differences in a separate-mail and on the SWICCA Forum next week.
•Changes in the naming of tabs and buttons with intension to make the SWICCA website more user friendly.
•An option for selecting a certain RCP also for graphs (former this function was only implemented for the map visualisation). When downloading data you still get data for all the RCP´s
•Correction of smaller problems (missing units in downloaded files, problems with the graph for Snow water equivalent, more distinct 0-line in the graph, etc.)

Known problems that will be fixed in the autumn:
•In the map visualisation for the indicators Water temperature and Temperature the legend is misleading. It says relative change in % which is wrong. Change for temperature is given in absolute values.
•A mismatch in units between the metadata description and what is shown in the SWICCA Demonstrator for some of the indicators (mm/s will be converted to mm/day and K to °C). Unfortunately the metadata descriptions became updated before the conversion of the data.

We did not succeed in uploading all the indicators and time series that we now have on 0,5 grid resolution on Hype catchment resolution before summer. New time table for this is second half of August.
Regarding Lisflood data on 5 km resolution this is also delayed. After the summer I will let you know when to expect these data.

Since June we have had several new versions of the SWICCA Demonstrator: http://swicca.climate.copernicus.eu/

    News since June:
    • All the showcases are updated with recent progress! Have a look at the progress of your colleagues work and get inspired http://swicca.climate.copernicus.eu/start/implemented-cases-of-local-change-adaptation/
    • We have worked a lot with guidance and user uptake in local workflows. Please have a look under the following tabs, you will find a lot of new and useful information:
o FAQ – Info sheets on using the Demonstrator and understanding the data that can be downloaded.
o TUTORIALS – Videos on using the Demonstrator and associated tools.
o LINKS – Links to other data providers, European policies, European and National Climate and Water services.
    • In the SWICCA Interface we have also worked with guidance. In the box “View data” under Maps, Graphs and download you will now find an info-button. As you click on the i-button you will get an explanation of all the different choices you have in the interface.
    • The choice for downloading daily time-series (ECV) you will now find in the bottom of “View data”. We are aware of that the difference between downloading indicators and ECVs is not quite clear. We will improve this shortly!
    • Bug fixing (change for temperature is given in absolute values, this is now correct in the legend)
    • Minor changes in the interface trying to make it more user friendly.
    • In the top left corner of the SWICCA website you will find a ribbon that clearly shows that this is a proof of concept (as required by the ECMWF). Still, the data provided in the interface are based on the best available knowledge on changes in the hydrological cycle for Europe. For further information have a look at http://swicca.climate.copernicus.eu/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2016/02/How-to-explore-confidence.pdf

Right now we are working on a new version that will be released during next week:
    • All the indicators and time series that we now have on 0,5 grid resolution will be given on Hype catchment resolution
    • The mismatch in units between the metadata description and what is shown in the SWICCA Demonstrator for some of the indicators in the 0.5 degree resolution will be fixed (mm/s will be converted to mm/day and K to °C in the interface)
    • The future change for snow water equivalent will be given in absolute values.

    During autumn:
    • Daily values for unregulated river flow
    • Some of the indicators will be given for Lisflood resolution (aridity 1, flow duration curve, flood recurrence, precipitation, river flow)
    • Key messages for all the indicators
    • Pictures showing confidence (similar to http://swicca.climate.copernicus.eu/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2016/02/How-to-explore-confidence.pdf ) for all the indicators
    • All metadata descriptions will be updated

We have a new version of the SWICCA Demonstrator: http://swicca.climate.copernicus.eu/

    News in this version:
•Hype catchment resolution: All the indicators and time series that we already have on 0.5 grid resolution are now available for Hype catchment resolution
•Daily values (ECV) for unregulated river flow for Hype catchment resolution
•The mismatch in units between the metadata description and what is shown in the SWICCA Demonstrator for some of the indicators in the 0.5 degree resolution are now fixed (mm/s are converted to mm/day and K to °C in the interface)
•The future change for snow water equivalent is given in absolute values.
•Key messages for future change for all the indicators shown in the map view. As you have selected an indicator under maps, a small light bulb will be shown to the right of the indicator name. Press this light bulb and you will get a key message!
•The choice for downloading daily time-series (ECV) you will now find in the bottom of “View data”. The difference between downloading indicators and ECVs is not quite obvious. We have added some tool tips and some more information in the i-button that better explains how to download data.
•Aridty 3 has been taken away from the Demonstrator since this indicator made no sense

Right now we are working on:
•Pictures showing confidence (similar to http://swicca.climate.copernicus.eu/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2016/02/How-to-explore-confidence.pdf ) for all indicators in 0.5 grid resolution
•Confidence in graphs: We will indicate if more than 75 % of the climate projections show the same trend (= robust signal) in graphs for all indicators in 0.5 grid resolution
    •Updating all metadata descriptions

    During autumn:
•Confidence in graphs and pictures for all resolutions
•As you download data you will also get a link to the metadata description of selected indicator
•Some of the indicators will be given for Lisflood resolution (aridity 1, aridity 2, flow duration curve, flood recurrence, precipitation, river flow)
    •Upload GDP scenarios

We have a new version of the SWICCA Demonstrator: http://swicca.climate.copernicus.eu/

    News in this version:
•Robustness of Change Index for 0.5 resolution. The look of the graphs have changed. We have added a ”Robustness of Change index” (RoC). RoC index points out cases in which >=75% of the ensemble members agree on the sign of change with respect to the reference period. In general, the more models agree on the sign, the more robust the sign of change is within the given ensemble. A robust change is meant to remain largely unaffected even if a few additional members point in the opposite direction. It is critical to note that the RoC Index always depends on the chosen ensemble and represents the best estimate given the ensemble.
Note 1. Just above the graph you will find a small question mark. As you press the question mark you will get an explanation on how to interpret the graph and the RoC Index.
Note 2. This is a first version of explanation of the graphs. At the moment the explanation is the same for all kinds of graphs. It fits with the indicators that present seasonality on the x-axis.
Note 3. Since the RoC Index builds on the monthly indicator we have decided to change the style of the seasonality curve from smooth to monthly steps.

Right now we are working with:
•Pictures showing confidence (similar to http://swicca.climate.copernicus.eu/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2016/02/How-to-explore-confidence.pdf ) for all indicators in 0.5 grid resolution
    •Updating all metadata descriptions
•The naming of Aridity 1 and 2 will be changed to Wetness 1 and 2

    During autumn:
•Confidence in pictures and RoC Index for all resolutions
•Easier access to the metadata descriptions by adding an option to reach the Metadata descriptions from the “View data” menu
•Changes in the menu to make it more understandable how to download indicators and ECV
•As you download data you will also get a link to the metadata description of selected indicator
•Some of the indicators will be given for Lisflood resolution (Wetness 1, Wetness 2, flow duration curve, flood recurrence, precipitation, river flow)
    •Upload GDP scenarios
•As we get feedback from the users this will of course also be considered

We have a new version of the SWICCA Demonstrator: http://swicca.climate.copernicus.eu/

    News in this version:
•Pictures showing confidence for all indicators with 0.5 grid resolution in the Map view (except from Aridity 1 and 2, before we make these maps we need to calculate absolute change instead of relative change)
•Easier access to the metadata descriptions by adding an option to reach this from the “View data” menu
•Changes in the menu with the intention to make it more understandable how to download indicators and ECV
•In the downloaded file for timeseries (ECV´s), the first row now describes for which coordinates and subId the data is valid (at the moment only for resolution hype Catchment, in the future the coordinates will follow also for 0.5 resolution)
•Indicator type “Water“ is renamed to “Water quantity”. The indicator Water Temperature will now be found under the indicator type “Water quality”
•The button “Guidance” is renamed to “Getting started”. The reason for this is that we want to emphasize that it is a really good idea to have a look at the information behind this button to understand how to start using the SWICCA Demonstrator
•The ECV “Unregulated River flow” is temporarily taken away from the SWICCA Demonstrator since we discovered a false in the calculations.

Right now we are working on:
•Confidence in pictures and RoC Index for Hype Catchments
    •Updating all metadata descriptions
•The naming of Aridity 1 and 2 will be changed to Wetness 1 and 2

    During autumn:
•Confidence in pictures and RoC Index for all resolutions
•As you download data you will also get a link to the metadata description of selected indicator
•Some of the indicators will be given for Lisflood resolution (Wetness 1, Wetness 2, flow duration curve, flood recurrence, precipitation, river flow)
    •Upload GDP scenarios
•Aridity 1 and 2 (that soon will be renamed to Wetness 1 and 2) will be presented in absolute change instead of relative change

We have a new version of the SWICCA Demonstrator: http://swicca.climate.copernicus.eu/

One of our users made us aware of that there was an error in the indicator Flood recurrence for Hype Catchment resolution. The values that were presented in the Demonstrator were too low. This has now been corrected!
